Crochet Stethoscope

This crochet stethoscope is a sweet gift for our hard-working healthcare workers! It can be made into an ornament to hang on a tree, it can hang from the car rear-view mirror, or it can be stitched onto a crochet blanket. There are so many things you can do with this cute little stethoscope!

Changing colors: Always change colors in the final step of the last stitch of the current color.  With two loops of the last stitch remaining on the hook, pull new color through the remaining two loops.  Continue following the pattern with the new color.

Always crochet over the ends of the yarn and crochet over the color not being used to take it along with your stitches. Only cut the yarn or leave the yarn behind if instructed to do so!

To make color changes:

Instructions:

Small Heart

Round 1: Using red, make a Magic Ring. Ch 3. Into ring – 2 dc, 2 hdc, 1dc, 2hdc, 2dc. Ch 3. Sl st into center of ring. Cut yarn but leave tails about 8″ long for sewing later. Tug tail to tighten ring. (9 sts).

Stethoscope Large Heart Background

Round 1: Using white, make a Magic Ring – . Ch 2. Into ring – 3 dc, 4 hdc, 1 dc, 4 hdc, 3 dc, ch 2 sl st into ring. Tug to close ring a little bit but DON’T CLOSE IT ALL THE WAY! (15 sts)

Round 2: Ch 3. Skip ch 2. (Sc, hdc ) in next st. Place marker in sc. 2 hdc in each of the next 2 sts. Hdc in next st. 1 sc in each of next 3 sts. (hdc, dc, hdc) in next stitch. 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts. Hdc in next stitch, 2 hdc in each of the next 2 sts. (hdc, sc) in the last stitch. Place marker in sc. Ch 3, skip ch 2. sl st down into the center of the ring. (see photo) Tug tail to tighten ring. Finish off. (23 sts)

Stethoscope Ear Pieces and Tubing

Row 1: Using black, remove first stitch marker and in the stitch that was marked, insert hook and pull up a loop of black.

Ch 1, hdc. In the next st, sc with a color change to gray.

Using gray, (2 sc in next st, sc in next st) 2 times. Sc with a color change to black in next st.

Sc in each of the next 5 sts. Ch 20. (Leaving gray yarn behind.)

Using small circle that you made in previous step, sl st in blo of small circle. (See photo below)

sl st into blo of next st to the right. (I know it is so hard to see the details of black yarn in this photo!! But in the photo below, I have slip stitched in the back loop of one sc, then slip stitched into the next sc to the right.)

Turn your work to sl st 20 back up the ch. (Now we are back to the stethoscope large heart background.)

Now as we crochet along the stethoscope background, continue to crochet over the gray yarn to bring it along.

Sc in the same st as the last sc on the background. Sc in the next 3 sts. Sc with a color change to gray in next st.

With gray, sc in the next 2 sts. 2 sc in next st. sc in next st, In the next st, make one regular sc then one sc with a color change back to black.

With black, sc in the next stitch. (Hdc, sl st) in the last st. Cut yarn and weave in ends. (51 sts)

Using heart tail, stitch heart to center of stethoscope center background.

Using chest piece tail, stitch chest piece to stethoscope tubing. I sew it to the BLO of the 2nd and 3rd black sc of the stethoscope tubing. Finish chest piece off by tying turning the stethoscope over, then tie the 2 tails (the tail from the magic ring and the tail from the end of the yarn) together in the back so they are super secure! Cut tails once they are secured with a tiny knot.

Add yarn or a ribbon to the top of your stethoscope if you want to hang it!
